Another week in Siem Reap

Monday:

FHE with Bong Chantee's family! So here's the thing we forgot that our area is 40 minutes away from our house and P-day ends at 5. So we head out to see them at like 4:50 and we got there at like 5:40 haha and we had to be back at our house at like 6:30 so we seriously had like 20 minutes to eat and share a message... We just ended up praying with them and eating and we leave at like 6... haha we biked so fast to try to make it back home in time, but we were still 10 minutes late... haha the struggles! Sometimes you just forget to add in the biking time!

Tuesday:

On Tuesday we went out to see the investigator that lives super far away from us. her name is Om Thoen. We went and saw her, and let's just say he wasn't all that interested in what we were telling her. She has two grandchildren that are also learning but they had already gone to school, so we are going to go back and try to visit them. Om's daughter is on a mission in Austraila and she ended up coming back this Sunday because she is sick... super sad she is going to see if she can get better so she can go back out. She loved her mission so much, but this week we are going to take some of the youth and all go and see her together. After that we went with Ming Rit and went and some less actives. One of the less actives his name is Bong Chi, I met his two sisters in the TTP ward. They both sent in their mission papers and are waiting for their mission call. Both of them are way awesome. Anyways he got in a moto accident the day before we visited him, he looked super rough, we shared some scriptures with him and then he promised he was going to start coming back to church. It was super cool, and Ming Rit was just awesome. She just tells people how it is, but with a lot of love! She was like you are a child of god, and he is waiting for you to come back, stop drinking and just come back already, do it for your family" and sure enough he was at church this sunday, and everyone was so excited! In like all of the talks in sacrament meeting they were talking about less actives and helping them come back, and they all talked about how the were so happy that Bong Chi was back, and just talked about how happy God is because of it! It was super awesome! Then during the third hour of church we all got together and talked about ways we can get home teaching going, and how we need to find those less actives and get them coming back. The ward is really focusing on that right now, and it's what we are focusing on as well as missionaries. It's way cool! I am super excited to see what is going to happen! I think we can have a lot of success with this, and get lots of God's children coming back to church!
Ming Rit's grandkids

Wednesday:

We went and visited an area that has lots of Less Actives and Recent Converts. Most of the Recent Converts are not coming to church! That is what we really need to work on in this area is RC and Less Actives! It's nice though we know most of the people in our CBR book now we are just working on finding the less actives that we don't have any records for... which can be hard at times haha but we can do it!
The day when we rode our bikes to our investigators house who lives an hour and a half away haha... she was kind of tired!

Thursday:

We went to Battonbong for Zone Conference. We talked about we really want to focus on Member Resitation we really want to focus on having 50 percent of members stay active after baptism. So we want to work on quality baptisms, finding the people that are already ready to receive the gospel. We talked about how we don't need to try to sell the gospel to people, we need to find those who God has already prepared! It was super awesome! Every time we have zone conference i just want to write everything down because it is all so good. haha!
Our House

Our area

Friday:

We didn't really do much because Sister Kosal was sick..but she is feeling better now so all is well!

Saturday:

Saturday morning was rough... We have an investigator that has a date to get baptized next sunday, but apparently the sisters before didn't get permission from her parents because her mom found out and won't let us visit anymore. Also her brother is a monk so he wasn't happy about it either. it's super sad because she was awesome loved the bom and loved going to church she had tons of friends there... and now we can't even go see her. Keep her in your prayers... I hope it will still work out... she really is so good. Our branch president said when her mom told her she just cried and cried... huh.... it's just a super difficult situation.... Other then that we went and saw Bong Chompa our other investigator, she is doing great. She just needs her wedding certificate, and she just found out she is having another baby! She has been praying for that for awhile now so it's super awesome! She was so so happy! Also we found a former investigator that wants to start learning again she has a lot of potential! We are super excited about her! Even though she stopped learned she still read Book of Mormon and prays everyday. Then we went to English Class and I gave the spiritual thought on the life of Christ.

Sunday:

I already talked a little bit about sunday, it was good Lookpuu Rotaa and Bong Mao came to church, and we had two other investigators that came as well, so we had 4 at church! It was good! The highlight was for sure bong chi coming back though, everyone was so excited! I have never seen so much love from a branch for a less active member then I did yesterday! If every ward did that all the less actives would stay haha! Yeah but overall it was a pretty good week!

LOVE YOU ALL!
also funny story i asked Sister Kosal how much she understood what people were saying from a scale from 1-10 and she told me 5... haha the struggles we are both trying to learn Cambodian... well again! Anyways kind of funny!

That moment when you you realize. . . you have to learn Cambodian again

Hello Everyone!

Tuesday:

We had District Meeting about the importance of the Book of Mormon in our investigators/members testimonies. The one thing that is hard in Cambodia is that a lot, if not most of the people here don't know how to read. So we want to focus on going to their house and reading with them! I can't believe the spirit that the Book of Mormon brings, before my mission I did not appreciate it as much as I should have. It's amazing how reading one verse of the Book of Mormon can bring such much peace to ones week, or day. It's something that I have been amazed by on my mission. Also it's amazing how tons of the people won't know how to read, and then after trying to read the Book Of Mormon everyday they start to learn. I have heard so many stories like that. It's amazing the miracles that come from the Book Of Mormon!

I get to pass this every day

Siem Reap

Wednesday:

We went to Bong Chantee's house a RC, she wasn't there, but her little girl was. We stopped and talked to her for a second, and she told us that she hadn't eaten that day.... we told her that on Monday we are going to do FHE with them, and that I am going to make american food. haha so I will be making spagetti for them on Monday. They are a super awesome family. Her husband is in jail right now and doesn't get released until next year... so it's really hard for their family right now... she is super great though she still come to church everyweek with all of her little kids. Also her husband, the one in jail, was also baptized, and he plans on coming to church with her when he gets out. They really do have the cutest family. After that we went and saw Ming Rith. She is the relief society president. Oh she is so awesome! I have a super hard time understanding her because she talks super fast, and did I mention that the accent in Siem Reap is sooo different from the accent in Phnom Penh... like they don't even use the same words... The have a harder time understanding me too because I talk like someone from the city... haha oh the language struggles.. it's okay though it gets better everyday... Sister Kosal asked me the other day "did you understand everything she said" and was like "nope not all of it" and she says yeah me either sometimes I don't even understand what they are saying" Haha oh goodness if my Cambodian comp can't understand then I am in trouble... haha jk we are currently learning together! Anyways, soapbox over, Ming Rith is all about helping the missionary! She kind of just tell us "sister I am meeting you here at two, and we are going to visit less actives okay?" She is super legit!
Ming Rith

Thursday:

We went to go visit this Less Active that Ming Rith showed us. Her name is Bong Charm. She has got 2 little kids and her husband well she said "he lost himself" which means he got into drugs and they literally just have no idea where he is, but she doesn't want him to come back. When they were married he abused her and her kids... she also told us that her family hates her because of her husband... it is super super sad... she is having a super hard time... I just think it's so hard for us to understand what they go through... but the atonement really is amazing, just knowing that Christ does know, he knows exactly how all of these people feel, and through his atonement all of the pain in their lives can be taken away... it's amazing...

My cute companion

A place where lots of members live

Friday:

Friday we went and saw Ming Phiap a less active with the one and only Ming Rith. We passed her on the way to Ming Phiap's house and she was just like -well I am coming.. haha i love her so much! Ming Phiap is the only member in her family, she has been inactive for a while. We shared the scripture in 1 Nephi 21:14-16. We just told her how God is never ever going to forget her. Then after that we went and saw a few other less actives with Ming Rith.

A RC's daughter-I love her!

Siem Reap

Saturday:

Saturday morning we I went on an exchange with Sister Spangler and she took us out to one of our investigators houses. It is two hours from our new house... okay like an hour and a half if we bike fast. Anyways they are great there are two younger kids Viza and Sia, and then Om Pon, we didn't actually get to teach them but just meeting them they seemed really good! I am excited to get out there and teach them. After that Ming Rith took us around to meet Chompaa. She is one of our investigators, she is good. She has been taught all of the lessons, but she doesn't have enough money to get her marriage certificate, so she is working on that right now. We are keeping her in our prayers. Then we went and saw two new investigators their names are Lookpuu Rotaa, and Bong Mao. They are super super poor, they have one little boy. they said they want to learn about the gospel because whenever they learn they just feel super happy even though their life is super hard right now.

Sunday:

I gave a talk in church, and I think it went okay, but you know it was hard well cuz... Cambodian... We had 4 investigators at church, and we had 3 Less Actives show up that haven't been there in a really long time! MIRACLES!!! Including the Less Actives were Ming Phiap and Bong Charm! Also we have some baptisms planned for this upcoming month so it's pretty exciting this area is great! After church we went with Bong Danna and she showed us this area that has soooo many Less Actives's in it! So Sister Kosal and I are going to focus on getting them back to church! They just need to remember the happiness that the gospel brings! Seriously though I love this area. training is going just fine! I feel like I don't even have to train Sister Kosal. We practice teaching most everyday, she is already a really good teacher! She just doesn't like to do it, so my goal is to make her love it! Seriously though it's been good so far! that was pretty much my week! Super good lots of work to do in this area! Can't wait to see what this week has in store!

Siem Reap

I forgot my journal this week... so this letter may be a little rough.. also my card reader has viruses on it so I can't send pictures this week... #Cambodia... I hate using hashtags but I feel like that was appropriate for the situation... haha

Monday:

Regular Pday activities and then we went teaching... who? I don't actually remember because I don't have my journal... haha sorry!

Tuesday:
New companion Sister Kosal

We Bong Savon's baptismal interview! She passed! She is going to get baptized on Sunday this week! I am so excited for her. She was so so happy after the interview was over, she was super stressed about it. There was nothing to worry about though she did great, and she is for sure ready to be baptized. I love her so much! I feel so so lucky to have been able to teach her. She has the like the sweetest spirit ever. Then we went and taught Bong Sokpheak, and she just talked about her mission and how she misses it so much. I told her I was leaving and she was like "why it hasn't been a transfer yet" haha dang this transfer went by way too fast. Bong Sokpheak is so awesome though, she is an RM, with two kids, and she is divorced. She was inactive when we got there but now she comes to everything, even insitiute! She really is super awesome, I just love her! When you come to Cambodia you will need to meet her. Then we went and did some English Contacting and taught a new investigator, her name is Soyriaa, she is like 23 years old, and she is protestant. We taught her lesson 1 and she asked tons of questions, it was great. I love how the gospel really does answer every single question! It's really amazing! After that we went and did some English Contacting for the English graduation party we had on wednesday.

Wednesday (or goodbyes are the worst)

In the morning we went and saw Bong Savon... I wasn't going to cry, but she started talking about how she doesn't have enough money to stay so in the next 3 months she is going to move, she going to move to her hometown. Which is an area that doesn't have missionaries and doesn't have the church. I know that one day we will have one there but it was just hard knowing that there is a good chance I may not see her again before I leave... plus I just love her so much!!! I love that no matter what we will see each other again! Anyways she started to cry, I started to cry, we all just sort of cried... I just told her how much I love her and that it's not important that I am here or not, what's important is that she is getting baptized and following Christ, because if she does that no matter what we will see each other again. It's just crazy that I have only been here a month and a half it literally felt like a week, and I love it so much! The people of Toul Tom Poung for sure have a piece of my heat. Ahh I love them so much! Then we went and saw Lookyiay Cheret. We taught her about the joy fullness of the gospel. She is already so good. We never know what to commit her to because she is already so awesome! After that I realized that I had to go to the mission home and receive training so that I can train. Sister Kimball had to decorate for the Christmas party and she needed Sister Yin's help, so they stayed and I went this huge group of the Youth of the Ward. Haha they came because they wanted to see me before I left and then they ended up taking me to the mission home. I have a picture... but my card is yap. I went with Srei Guyo, Ganika, and like 3 other YW. So I went to the mission home got trained and then we all went back to the church for the graduation party. Saying goodbye to the YW was hard! I seriously love them so much. I really want to come back to this area some day. I just love them! Then after that we had a graduation party. It was good I had to say goodbye to everyone which was hard, but it's okay...all is well!! Seriously though I have loved Toul Tom Poung Area so much!!! They have the best people.... love them... also we have seen a lot of miracles in this area... I will for sure miss it.

Thursday

My suitcase broke on the first flight of stairs... kind of a struggle to start off the morning haha it was my huge green one to, but crazy enough after tying it with some rope everything made it through that 7ish hour bus ride to Siem Reap!

Friday:

The Elders showed us around the area and we met some of the members. Then in the afternoon we went and tried to find the President's house, and a miracle happened because we found it, and turns out that one of our investigators lives down there so we ended up teaching her. She is 14 years old and her name is Gimlaen. She is sooo good! She is the only one in her family that wants to learn so we will need to get parent's permission, but she is great! Love her! She comes to church everyweek and she LOVES YW'! I can't wait to get to know her even better.

Saturday:

Cleaned the house and got it ready to go for Monday. Then at like 2 we went to the church to meet a BM that was going to help us with the area, but she didn't show up haha... it actually worked out really well because we ended up just helping the RS clean because only two people showed up to clean the church.! After we had English class because in the Kites we have it on Wednesday and on Saturday. It was good we met some more of the members!

Sunday:

Ming Rith took us to some member's houses. She is super awesome and she loves missionary work. She has an investigator that lives by her house she has been taught all the lessons she just needs her wedding certificate. We are going to try to help her understand the importance of it haha! Anyways we went to teach her and Ming called her over and said hey we are learning with the sister's right now, and then she gave the best comments! Seriously she is legit. Then we went and saw Bong Chantee. She has 5 kids and her husband is currently in jail. She is having a hard time but she still come to church everyweek. Her kids are adorable! I love them so much! She is great as well, she really has a lot of faith. She knows that everything will work out. It's just hard for her because she needs to look after the kids because she has a new baby so she can't work, so she has no way to get money. Her daughter goes to work and school, and sort of provides for them... it's just hard... She is amazing though.. her entire family is... Church went well! We had a BM meeting and the youth are super great and want to help the missionaries! I love it! haha I wish I would have been more like that! Other then that they had us go up and bear our testimonies, and then I had to translate for Sister Jackson... haha the Sisters translate for her every sunday! It was then I realized how much different Camboidan is then English, some stuff makes sense but it doesn't translate. Haha it was good though!
New area

Monday:

We switched houses are new house is sooooo nice! it's like America nice! Thank you Elder and Sister Levitt!!! Then we went and did some contacting.

Crazy trying to adjust to this new area and everything but so far so good! The area is gorgeous, the closest members house is like 50 or 40 minutes away so we bike tons, but I love it! My comp is good haha we don't speak English like at all... only sometimes with Sister Spangler, but it's good. We usually understand each other just fine! I really love her! !We both love missionary work! It's been fun though she is a really hard worker! Overall week 1 was pretty good!! I hope you all are doing well!
LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Transfer calls, sometimes they blow your mind. . .

Hello Everyone!

Monday:

Regular Pday, Then we had FHE at Ming Ta's house. I love her so much! She is the funniest... haha the first time I met her I had an elephant dress on and she looked at me and told me that " you can't wear that to church sister, that is for home" Haha! Anyways we went to her house and she was telling us how she is trying to get her visa so that she can go see her daughter in Hawaii, because she is having a baby, but her visa keeps falling through... so we decided to share Mormon 9:18-21, which has become one of my favorite scriptures here on the mish, and talked about miracles. We all read it and then talked about miracles that we have had in our life. Then two of our Investigators came in, and we read the scripture again, and they both shared miracles from their lives. It turned out to be a super great lesson. Ming Ta talked about how she was the first one to join the church in her family. She said her husband joined the church 8 years later. She told us that she had fasted a really long time to be able to go to the temple, and then she got an answer to her prayers and had enough money and everything to go... then right before she was going to go, she said " I realized I had asked for the wrong thing... I didn't want to go to the temple by myself I wanted to go with my family, so I ended up not going to the temple because I wanted to wait for my husband. Then one day after lots of fasting, her husband asked "where are the elders because I want to learn" She said that day she just cried and cried... wow such an amazing story... gives me chills, and now they are sealed together in the temple and they had a daughter that went to SLC temple square mission. Seriously gives me chills, 8 years later her husband joined... wow!
Bong Savon baptism next week!

Love the YW in this WARD

Tuesday:

So the coolest thing happened on tuesday, we were coming back from our lessons that night and there was this african man on the top of the stairs on the way to our apartment. We all said hi and then he looked at our tags and asked if we were missionaries... I told him " yeah we are missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" He gets this huge smile on his face and goes "hey that's my church" His dad was a bishop in Africa. He said that his dad passed away like 3 years ago... he was talking about of his dad had to drag him to church every single week... so that he could go pass the sacrament, and then he told us his brother is a patriarch and that his sister has served a mission. The man's name was John, he told us that he hadn't been to church for over 6 years... he said he came to Cambodia a year ago and he didn't know that we had a church here. We explained to him where it was, and then he asked us if we had a book of mormon with us! We gave him an english book of mormon and he just looked at it with this huge smile on his face, and said " it's been way too long" We all just kind of sat there a second and tried to take it all in... I mean... can we just say miracles?! The Lord's hand is in this work! There is no way we can fail with him on our side! I know that John's dad was happy up there in heaven that day!

This cute baby and family!

Indian place for lunch!

Wednesday:

"What are the odds that you will contact the next person that comes around that corner whether on a motor, or a car, or walking?" sister kimball... Sister schwab, " 1-5" .................. "3" Sister Schwab and Sister Kimball... haha because I lost what are the odds I had to contact the next person that came around the corner, sure enough it was a women on a moto... So waving my arms and probably looking like a crazy person I tracked her down, and she stopped, then I just asked her how to get to the main road... ( I knew how to get to the main road) After asking the fake question.. we talked a little bit about Christ and she said that she had learned before and was interested in learning again! It was pretty awesome actually!! We are going to meet her this week. After that we went and saw Bong Savon, and just are preparing her for baptism.
English class students

Sister Yin!!!

Thursday:

We went to Bong Savon's and all of her family was drinking and she didn't have anywhere to go so we went on a walk with her just to get her out of the house. On the walk about 15 little kids went with us because they wanted to "dao leng with the white people" haha super funny...

Friday:

We had an exchange and I went with Sister Song and Sister Yin. It was super good. Both of them are super awesome! Love them! It was just me and the two Cambodians. We went and saw Bong savon, and Lookyiay Cheret. Then we went and met with the youth of the church. The Youth here is sooooo good I love them sooo much!!!

Saturday:

Finished up the exchange went and saw Bong Sokphiak. We are going to teach her daughters the lessons and get her ready for baptism. I totally ended up getting lost on the way to exchange back with Sister Killian and Sister Kimball, and we ended up biking for awhile... 40 minutes... I think I may have killed Sister Yin cuz when we got back she just looked at me and said " I need to sleep I have no strength... so yeah my bad on that one... hey but now I know! Next time totally won't go that way... So Sorry Sister Yin.... it's okay she was better after an hour... or two... haha...

I buy fruit from this lady every week!

Sunday:

We did splits with some of the people in the ward. I went with Sister Yin and Sister Kimball went with some other members. She went to visit some less actives and I went and taught Julin and Darrin. I love their family so much! She will be getting baptized next week! She can't wait on her calendar she has "God loves me" on the date she is getting baptized. Ahh... I love her so much... I love this area so much... it has a lot of my heart that is for sure... which brings me to my next event of the week. Transfer calls... so here is what is happening I got a call at 7:30 from President, and it turns out that I am going to Siem Reap, whitewashing it, and one more thing I am training. I am going to be half training Sister Koonsal. Needless to say I feel a little inadequate for the job, I am super excited but super nervous... I know that I am going to have to rely on the Lord alot this next transfer.... I will need his help, but I also now that he is going to help us so it's going to be okay! It's going to be hard, but with the Lord we can do hard, heck we can do the impossible! I am super sad to leave this area I love it sooooooo much I love the people here soooo much I can't even explain it... but I am also excited! Super grateful for the time I had here. I for sure want to come back one day! I love these people here so much, but I can't wait to meet the people in Siem Reap and love them and share the gospel to them as well. So wish me luck this week, because well... I am going to need it!
Love you all so much!!!

New years in Cambodia

Here is this Week!

Tuesday:

When to district meeting and watched the Best Two Years. Oh my goodness it was so good! I have never seen it before and seriously it was great. It was the way we celebrated new years. Then we stayed in the rest of the day because Sister Yin was sick, seriously feel so bad for her... so we just worked on CBR's and stuff.
Lookyiay Cherat

Bong Sokphiak

Wednesday:

We went and visited Lookyiay Yawn, and oh my goodness it was a little rough... she just doesn't really want to listen to us. We were trying to teach her about the sacrament and she kept on going off on some tangent.. haha every... single...time... she just did not want to listen to us... she is a less active. She had a stroke and she still has a bit of a hard time walking. Hopefully we can get her back to church.. she says she still has faith and wants to go to the celestial kingdom, but she just doesn't really want to go to church.. so yeah... we are trying to help her realize the importance of going haha. Then we taught Bong Savon and she is good as always! Seriously love her so much! I just love Toul Tom Poung. I feel like I have only been here like two weeks but it is already like one transfer already... I don't want to leave. I love the people here so much.
Cambodian Kids

Thursday:

We went and saw Lookyiay Cheret, and I am telling you if anyone deserves to go to the celestial kingdom it is her. We talked to her about enduring to the end... well we talked a little bit about it ...she pretty much taught us. She said when she first started paying her tithing that she was paying about 75 cents in tithing each month... and now she is paying about 5-7dollars. She said ever since she joined the church she may still be poor but "she isn't poor in heart" she said God provides everything she needs for her. She also told us that she just doesn't have a lot of strength nowadays, but she prays to be able to go to church every week. She said that every time she always has enough strength to go to church. She really is amazing... I can't even express it... While she was talking I just kept thinking dang... I bet Heavenly Father loves her so much and is so proud of her, I know he loves us all, but yeah... She also doesn't know axial, so she can't read, but she is still so happy and loves when we come over so she can hear the scriptures. She is seriously an example to me, her faith, is so strong, it really is amazing, and she has only been a member for two years... she is so awesome I love her so much!

New Years party

Friday:

We went and saw Ming SokE she is having a super hard time right now, she is a Less Active whose husband doesn't come to church, and also her kinds are coming right now either, so she is the only one. I have a hard time understanding all that she says because she is from a kite and she doesn't speak as clearly as everyone else, but I do get most of it... haha the struggle of the language sometimes. Anyways then we had a New Years party with the ward. It was super great Sister Kimball gave a talk, and then we ate with everyone in the ward. Dang I seriously love this ward so much, I can't even express how much I love it!
Someone bought this land so everyone needs to move.

Saturday:

We went and taught Julin and Darrin. They are both super good. Darrin is getting baptized on the 17th of January as well as Bong Savon. That means we should have two baptisms coming up in the next couple of weeks! Pretty exciting! Darrin is soooo excited! haha she asks about it every time we come. She is like... two weeks right? Right? haha She really wants her mom and dad to make it so that is something that we are praying for. Their mom just had a baby named Jenny and the Elders came over and gave her a blessing. I love their family so much!!!! Then we went to this Poom where we contacted some people a few weeks ago, one of the bong's name was Bong Somnaan she has like 4 kids and just got divorced to her husband like a month ago, she left him and then a week later was when we first met her. We taught her lesson 2 and then asked if we could meet at the church the next day. She has to work in the mornings so she couldn't come to church but she wanted to meet us at 4 the next day.
Splits with Sister Larsen

Sunday:

We met Bong Somnaan and she is so awesome! Her life is really hard... she goes around everyday on a cart and sells these clam things. She just walks around in the heat all day... and she has to do that job so that she can stay in the Poom and so that her kids can go to school. She is an only child and her mom and dad passed away. She left her husband over a month ago. She also went to church, our church, one time, 6 years ago, way cool to think about... the people really are prepared to receive the gospel. Even though it may not seem so at the time they are being prepared. While teaching her lesson 1 she told us that all day on sunday she was just thinking about meeting us at the church... she was just thinking of the church all day, and then when she got to the church she said she felt so so happy. It was super awesome to because during that lesson I was thinking the same thing, that it just felt warm and happy and the spirit was super strong, and then right after that though Bong Somnaan told us that. We asked her when she wanted to meet again and she was like "I am free every single night" haha it was awesome... She is super great and super prepared for the gospel.
